Clermont is located in Lake County, Florida, United States. It is located in 20 miles west of Orlando and 22 miles southeast of Leesburg. Clermont was founded in 1884 and incorporated in 1916. Clermont is home to the Florida Citrus Tower, which is one of the first constructed Florida landmarks. The tower was constructed in 1956. The Townsend House was moved to Clermont in 2002 , from its original location, which is now Highway 50. This was the home of the first African-American couple in Clermont, their names were James and Sallie Townsend. This home has been open to the public since 2005.
